The Client - Binkelman (Our client since April 1996)

The Style

This humorous On Hold Marketing production is a combination of interviews, a commercial for an odd carnival, and an over-the-top audible press release. Unlike traditional OHM, it contains wall-to-wall voiceover, no music breaks.

Binkelman and its callers are long-time fans of our Humor On Hold™. The company's Eric Smith paid us the ultimate compliment when he told us that "we get people who ask us to put them back on hold."

The Writer's Thoughts

"I've been inspired lately by the work of Stan Freberg," said the writer Scott Greggory. "I've been looking back on his TV commercials from the 1960s, so I was really hearing his voice while writing the interview segments. His creative was groundbreaking, and it still stands out as unique even today."

"We appreciate the freedom that Binkelman allows us," said Greggory. "They understand that they can use our humor to entertain their customers in this space. They're turning the negative of holding into a positive experience that callers will remember."

The Production

We used six voices, two music tracks and several pre-recorded sound effects in this On Hold Marketing production. We also used Foley techniques - creating our own sound effects to meet the specific needs of the piece. (Listen for the subtle sounds of the silverware on the plate and the chair dragging along the floor.

The Client - Holiday Inn Express of Perrysburg (Our client since March 2003.)

The Production

We create a four-minute On Hold Marketing production each quarter for Holiday Inn Express of Perrysburg. The goal: encourage potential guests to make reservations by communicating the hotel's value, convenient location, and quick access to area attractions. We also want to remind area businesspeople to take advantage of the meeting facilities.

The Writer's Thoughts

"The client's core selling points are pretty consistent: their free breakfast buffet, fresh coffee, and on-site meeting rooms," said Creative Consultant Andrea Poteet. "I work to present those benefits in unique and engaging ways each time we update the copy."

About Our Client

Holiday Inn Express of Perrysburg is located just a few minutes south of Toledo at 1-75 and Route 20. It's within easy driving distance of historic Perrysburg neighborhoods and the city's quaint downtown, as well as Fort Meigs, the Toledo Zoo, Toledo Museum of Art, and Fifth Third Field, home of the Toledo Mud Hens Triple A baseball team.

The Client - Torrence Sound (Our client since May 2015.)

The Production

Through conversations with the client we learned that 95% of Torrence's customers are repeat customers who still aren't fully aware of the company's capabilities, and that 70% of their callers need help with a specific issue. We also knew that Torrence wanted to be perceived as technology experts.

We used the On Hold Marketing copy to position the Torrence team as specialists who solve problems and ease the related pain their callers may be feeling. And we reinforced the full breadth of Torrence's services to create awareness and encourage cross-selling opportunities.

The Writer's Thoughts

"Torrence staff members have expert knowledge of the gear they sell, applications, installation, etc., but most of their customers do not," said the writer Scott Greggory. "We wanted to say to callers - in very plain language - 'Hey, don't worry! Torrence will take care of you.' To that end, the voice is friendly and the copy is non-technical and reassuring."

About Our Client

Torrence Sound was founded in 1928. Their services have evolved over time, but these days, they specialize in providing healthcare, education and worship clients with audio, video projection, security and music system solutions. Learn more at www.TorrenceSound.com.

The Client - Hospice of Michigan (Our client since January 2014.)

The Production

Like many organizations that handle life and death issues, Hospice of Michigan (HOM) must walk the narrow line between marketing its services and avoiding the perception of marketing its services. Their callers on hold are often in crisis, concerned for their own life or the life of a loved one. They want help without feeling that someone is selling them something.

The mood of the On Hold Marketing is especially important for this audience. The music complements the voices, which are serious, yet softer and comforting.

The Writer's Thoughts

"Creating this content requires a real sensitivity to what the audience is going through," said the writer Scott Greggory. "We work to communicate that the HOM team is qualified, compassionate, and always available, while trying to instill confidence and provide comfort."

About Our Client

Hospice of Michigan is the state's largest, most experienced provider of hospice care, with roots dating back to the 1970s.

HOM serves more than 1,700 patients each day, regardless of their age, diagnosis or ability to pay. The organization relies on donations to cover the expenses that insurance providers do not reimburse. Learn more at www.HOM.org.

The Client - Grogan's Towne Chrysler (Our client since February 1996)

The Production

The copy informs callers about some of the many types of value that Grogan's Towne provides, including several convenience features, from their online car shopping, to the Kelley Blue Book tool and car loan payment calculator on their website.

That content gives callers in the market for a new or used vehicle even more reasons to buy from Grogan's Towne. Also, the friendly, casual voiceover is inviting and helps callers feel welcome.

The Writer's Thoughts

"With Grogan's Towne, we use a lighter touch, mixing in a little humor," said Creative Consultant Andrea Poteet. "Grogan's Towne provides a lot of customer benefits, and the humor helps those benefits stand out a bit more for callers on hold."

About Our Client

Grogan's Towne Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram has served northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan for years from their location at 6100 Telegraph Road in Toledo. They sell new and pre-owned cars, provide complete automotive service, and offer their Express Lane Oil Change service.

The Client - OCP (Our client since February 1991)

OCP has been a leading interior and exterior contractor in Ohio since 1968. We create quarterly On Hold Marketing productions for the company to reinforce its value and keep callers aware of the many types of construction projects that the OCP team is working on.

The Production

As we were recording, we realized that the copy felt almost like a classic NFL Films script, with its references to "city skylines across Ohio" and "people who make buildings rise up." We believe that interpretation coincides with the look and feel of OCP's new website as well, with its strong black and white images and elements of mid-century modern style. A powerful industrial music track completes the sound.

The Writer's Thoughts

"The theme of 'defining the skyline' is a powerful visual metaphor," said writer Bob Seybold. "It was the perfect catalyst to help me to create a script to give callers a sense of OCP's experience, their abilities with the tools of the building trade, and their people who create those skylines all over Ohio."

How We Reinforce OCP's Branding

The company recently embarked on a re-branding effort to emphasize the power and scope of its work and the outstanding resources it brings to every project. The tag line for their new marketing program is "defining the skyline," and our On Hold Marketing explains how OCP does that; literally, by referencing the many buildings they construct in major cities across the Buckeye state, and figuratively, by setting the industry standard for performance with the latest technology, the best practices and the most experienced workforce.
