I recently read social media and marketing guru Peter Shankman's blog post about his Triathlon journey in Cozumel, Mexico. Not only did he complete the harrowing feat, but he wrote about his experience and real-time thought process throughout the race. It was a truly inspiring piece that had me trolling the web for training programs and searching for upcoming Ironman competitions.
Have I ever run a competitive race in my life? Have I ever seriously swum in open water? Have I ever been on a bike for more than 3 hours? No. Nope. Definitely not. Peter has a way with words. Not only does he inspire me to one day become an Ironman myself, he inspires me to be a better writer! Read the post, if you haven’t already. In it Peter says:
“Fear tastes good. Fear keeps you nimble. It keeps you hungry. It makes you do amazing things.”
I agree. Whether you’re tackling an Ironman competition or presenting your ideas to the blogosphere for the first time, trying a new marketing tactic, or starting your own business, that fear is healthy, exciting, and an essential part of what you need to accomplish your goals.
