DEFINITELY NOT COOL!

April 18th, 2007
by Scott Greggory / BusinessVoice Creative Director

I was repulsed Tuesday when I heard a short piece on a national afternoon radio program about marketers who were trying to capitalize on the recent shooting deaths of more than 30 people on a university campus. (I’m purposely not mentioning the name of the school in this post to avoid being guilty of the same tactic.) Apparently, the marketers purchased Internet key words linked to news about the story, knowing that it would be a hot topic and would provide “great exposure.” To anyone who signed off on that idea: check your humanity level; you’re a few quarts low. I want to drive traffic to my clients’ websites too, but the murder of 32 innocent people is not an acceptable vehicle with which to deliver any client’s message.
