The judges of this year’s ADDY Awards competition in Toledo, Ohio may have been a little confused at first.
They thought they were supposed to be listening to an On Hold Messaging production, but what they were hearing sounded like a sample of a talk radio program.
It was actually both. Sort of.
BusinessVoice, the Toledo-based Point-of-Entry Audio Marketing agency that created the On Hold Messaging for its own use, patterned the production after the popular radio format. “We really wanted to grab our callers’ attention with the radio spoof,” said Creative Director Scott Greggory, “and, at the same time, allude to a few reasons a company should not use the radio on hold.”
Those reasons came in the form of bizarre commercials, a rather odd traffic report, and other elements common to radio that would offer no specific benefit to callers on hold.
The ADDY judges liked what they heard, and awarded the humorous entry a Gold ADDY Award and the coveted Judges’ Choice trophy.
“We’re thrilled about the win,” said BusinessVoice President Jerry Brown. “This production is another example of how we’ve taken On Hold Messaging to a new level, using humor and creativity with great success.”
BusinessVoice was also awarded an Honorable Mention at last Thursday’s ADDY Awards (2/17/2005) for an On Hold Messaging production it created for Midwest Computer Support. Both winning entries were written and voiced by Scott Greggory. Amy Scott, John Jennens and Jerry Brown provided additional voice talent. Mike Cleveland and Troy Montgomery served as Production Engineers.
