In October of 2008, ROI Research of Lancaster, Pennsylvania conducted a survey of more than 1,500 people for the marketing firm Epsilon. ROI concluded that “the benefits of permission-based email marketing campaigns extend far beyond e-commerce transactions and have a significant impact on purchasing behavior and consumer loyalty.” The study also showed that customers are more likely to buy from companies that marketed to them via email.
Here are the key findings from the ROI Research / Epsilon survey:

71% remember a company’s email communications when making a purchase at the company’s website;
50% said they’re more likely to buy products from companies that send them email, whether their purchases are online or at the place of business;
One-third said they usually visit sites directly instead of clicking on an email link.
